The design of the Black Keys's
Brothers album is the complete opposite of what one would normally expect from an CD cover. Upon observing it, you immediately get a sense for its sarcastic nature. These boys are calling it as they see it; no frills. Just some cover, with some songs, by some band. This look is consistently carried throughout on both the front and back covers as well as the disc itself.
The packaging was designed by Michael Carney with the intention of having it resemble an old vinyl record. The use of Cooper Black reinforces this vintage feel. By reducing the cover to a few mere words, I also think that its minimalism seems to be mocking the over designing of others. Whether you like the simple look or not, you can't deny the kerning is great!
